Gay Friendly Art Deco Style Guest House
Brighton Paskins Gay Friendly Art Deco Guest House, Charlotte Street, Brighton ![]() www.paskins.co.uk On my arrival at the Art Nouveau reception I was welcomed by a happy smiley member of staff who showed me to one of the 19 rooms, each of which are individual in design and perhaps a little quirky but not at the expense of being comfortable. I cannot decide which aspect of Paskins I find most appealing, whether it is the two fine town houses it occupies or the vibrant palette of the decor. There is of course the famous Art Deco breakfast room which is simply stunning, the individuality of the bedrooms, the amazingly good food and Susan and Roger's incredible passion to operate Paskins in an ethically responsible way without detriment to their guests' comfort or the environment. I know that it is now very vogue to make such claims, but these guys have been practising this for the last fifteen years. The breakfast room is special and it is so easy to see why so many Art Deco aficionados pay unconditional homage here. The menu provides an astonishing variety of imaginative vegetarian and vegan delights, 3 fishy dishes, a full English to die for and some intriguing specials. How cool can it be to arrive and relax in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere that bears not a hint of dust nor slavish attitudes to style? Paskins' style brief is Vivienne Westwood meets Amelia Earhart. |
